Multnomah County's community health center network — Oregon's largest, serving some 56,000 patients a year across clinics offering medical, dental and pharmacy care, is in real disarray at the top, and it just went legal. Former interim director Anirudh Padmala, fired after an internal investigation, says he was scapegoated in a power struggle with the volunteer patient board that oversees the clinics. His attorney has now filed a tort claim against the county alleging retaliation and a hostile work environment. Investigators, for their part, found Padmala did violate workplace conduct policy by eroding staff morale, though they cleared him of using his position for personal gain. Two board members who clashed with him have since been impeached themselves. Padmala was the center's fifth director in six years. Willamette Week

A 53-year-old man died Friday night on the Angel's Rest Trail in the Columbia River Gorge after suffering what officials called a "medical event" about two miles up the trail. Other hikers reached him first, taking turns performing CPR while Corbett Fire and Multnomah County deputies made their way up the trail, but he had already died by the time crews arrived. The county's Search and Rescue team was activated to help carry his body back down. Angel's Rest is one of the most popular hikes in the Gorge, a steep, roughly five-mile round trip with sweeping Columbia River views that draws crowds of all experience levels year-round. A hard reminder that elevation gain doesn't care how fit you are, especially with a heat wave bearing down. KATU

Officers with Portland's Focused Intervention Team made 11 arrests, wrote multiple citations, and towed 10 vehicles in a weekend push against what police called a spike in gun violence. It started Friday when several teenagers were picked up at a gas station on Northeast Broadway. Officers later arrested a 22-year-old near Northeast 82nd and Milton in connection with a May shooting, and on Saturday tracked down a 19-year-old accused of firing multiple rounds near Northeast 148th and Burnside before fleeing with two others in a car. He's now facing attempted murder and assault charges. Chief Bob Day called it proof of what happens when agencies "work together with a shared commitment", Portlanders will settle for just feeling a little safer. KATU
