Friday another beautiful day with a high of 79, followed by a cooler weekend with possible showers Sat. Multnomah County has lifted the burn ban yesterday, so go nuts. Wait, no- I mean actually you should still check the AQI before burning and also be careful. Mayor Wilson wants to investigate some potential corruption at Prosper Portland, A Michelin star chef opened a new bar/ bistro at the Heathman Hotel, and Portland wants to take a little pause before letting Amazon do drone deliveries. Events outside of Portland don’t usually make the list, but I couldn’t leave off the Giant Pumpkin Regatta in Tualatin where sailors in costumes paddle around on giant pumpkins.

🚨 THE NEWS

Mayor Asks Prosper Board to Review No-Bid Contracts

Mayor Keith Wilson is asking the Prosper Portland board to review three no-bid contracts worth a combined $456,000. Willamette Week reported that executive director Cornell Wesley awarded them to college friends without board approval. Prosper says the contracts are within his authority, since he can approve contracts under $500,000. Board chair Gustavo Cruz says he was unaware of the details. Three city councilors have said the agency should face tighter city oversight. Willamette Week

Justin Ramirez, formerly of Coquine, is the executive chef. The menu features cicchetti, which are Venetian bar snacks, along with handmade pasta, local meat and seafood, and pizzette. Spritzes and wine round out the drinks. Portland Mercury

Council Moves Toward a Pause on Delivery Drone Facilities

Portland City Council took the first step Wednesday toward a moratorium on facilities that support delivery drones. Eleven councilors voted to consider the pause. The vote follows Amazon's plan to launch drone delivery in Portland next year, including a proposed base at its North Portland warehouse. Amazon canceled a permit meeting scheduled for next week. State land use rules mean council can vote on a moratorium in no fewer than 45 days. OPB

Sidenote: the FAA is investigating the plane that flew under the Hawthorne Bridge. Let’s keep the skies safe, eh?
