Fall Restaurant Openings Are Cooking Up a Storm
Portland's fall dining scene is stacked. Urdaneta owners Javier and Jael Canteras open Feli, an Andalusian spot in Slabtown, this month. JinJu Patisserie returns to North Williams Avenue in late September after closing last December. Michael Mina brings Bar Sprezzatura, an Italian-inspired restaurant and bar, to the Heathman Hotel in late October. Pamana opens a second, dinner-focused location in Concordia in October, and Nimblefish chef Cody Auger's eight-seat Sushi Fukami debuts September 18 with a $195 tasting menu. Eater PDX

Portland Parks Look to Ban Bad Behavior
Portland city leaders are weighing changes to the Safe Parks Ordinance that would let the city ban people from parks for up to 90 days over drug use, weapons, or violence. Set for City Council consideration Tuesday, the proposal would also extend exclusions to nearby city property and sidewalks, closing a loophole that let banned activity simply move next door. Officials point to Oregon Park and Dawson Park as examples of spaces the changes aim to make safer. Portland police say they'll keep working with Parks & Recreation on enforcement. KATU
New Book Walks Readers Through Portland's Hidden Foundations
Portland architecture writer Brian Libby has a new book out, In Search of Portland, Exploring a Transforming City, via OSU Press. It's structured as walking tours through downtown, Old Town, and the Pearl District, unearthing a hundred hidden histories behind the city's buildings, including where the Kingsmen recorded Louie Louie, Humphrey Bogart's favorite table at Jake's Crawfish, and the old Rajneesh Hotel. Libby has chronicled Portland's architecture for decades, writing for Willamette Week and The New York Times.Willamette Week

There's a snow-white Bali myna hanging out at the zoo's Vollum Aviary now, and she is exceptionally rare, with fewer than 100 left in the wild in Bali. Poachers used to nearly wipe them out for the illegal pet trade. She's a total showstopper in person. Go say hi!
