Wednesday high of 77 and sunshiney. I’m loving watching the leaves change right now. It’s the best time of year to see the famous Japanese maple at the Portland Japanese Garden. I would vote that tree for Mayor if I could. Headlines today: Very good news about the late Parkrose Grocery Outlet Bargain Market. Bad blood between Salt & Straw and Ruby Jewel. Potential school closures. Tonight is the Trailblazers preseason game against the Warriors. Damian Lillard is back! Ja Morant joined the team, and we have a new head coach- again: Micah Nori.

Parkrose Neighbors Fill the Cart for a New Neighborhood Grocery
Parkrose is a step closer to getting its grocery store back. Supporters say they have raised $30,000 for Parkrose Grocery, a locally owned market planned for the former Grocery Outlet on Northeast Sandy Boulevard, Council President Jamie Dunphy's office announced Monday. The money covers a month of rent and other operating costs. Owner Don McKeever, who ran the Grocery Outlet before it closed in June, will now work with funders and community stakeholders to get the project underway. KGW

Up to 14 Portland Schools Could Close, and Families Are Doing Their Homework
Portland Public Schools unveiled two plans Monday that would close up to 14 schools, including 13 elementaries and Sellwood Middle. The second plan closes 11, and a third option changes nothing. Superintendent Kimberlee Armstrong says resources are spread too thin, while parents and teachers are already pushing back. The district also faces a $65 million budget gap. Most changes would start in fall 2027, with a school board vote expected in December. OPB
