🦗Saturday Thank Gosh! Today hits 61°F with a 40% rain chance — so, a normal April Saturday. Some anonymous Portlanders have been secretly tiling the city's sidewalk cracks into little works of art. Also, the Blazers are in a must-win stretch with a playoff spot literally on the line. Let's go.

The City's Cracks Are Getting Beautiful

Someone — actually, a group calling themselves the Portland Tile Guerrillas — has been quietly filling the city's broken sidewalk cracks with small tile mosaics. Dozens of them, scattered around Portland, featuring Grateful Dead lyrics, tributes to local history, and other designs that reward people who look down. The city, for its part, says it only repairs sidewalks that are unusable — so whoever these people are, they found a gap and filled it. Literally. It's the kind of thing Portland used to be known for before everyone got tired of talking about what Portland used to be known for. Anyway. Look down when you're walking this weekend. Oregonian

Eight Hours on Division

Portland firefighters showed up Thursday afternoon at a SE Division Street apartment after a smoke report. The tenant met them at the door with a knife. They backed out; Portland Police took over. SERT, crisis negotiators, robots, drones, gas — the whole toolkit — before officers finally took 28-year-old Elijah Raheim Dickinson into custody just before 10 p.m. No one was injured. Division Street between Cesar E. Chavez and 50th was closed for the duration. Dickinson faces charges including attempted arson, criminal mischief, and an existing warrant for burglary and unlawful use of a weapon. Neighbors said it wasn't a surprise. KPTV

Blazers Hosting Clippers Tonight. Postseason on the Line.

Portland enters the final weekend of the regular season at 40-40, tied with the Clippers for the 8th seed in the West — and the tiebreaker belongs to whoever wins Friday night at Moda Center. They've lost two straight after a three-game winning streak and need to close strong. Deni Avdija, Donovan Clingan, and Scoot Henderson have carried this team further than most expected — the Blazers haven't made the postseason since 2021. Portland is already guaranteed at least one home play-in game, but the seeding matters. They host Sacramento Sunday. This weekend could determine a lot. OPB

📚 ON THIS DAY

On this day in 1961, Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first human in space. Portland responded by continuing to exist, which was also impressive in its own way.
