IN PARTNERSHIP WITH

Tuesday sunny with a high of 63. Bar Sprezzatura had a soft opening last week and Bridgetown Bites gave us a first look at Heathman Hotel’s new restaurant. A new black-owned venue in Old Town is going all night. Portland’s bid to increase housing hasn’t changed much. Plus there’s a cutie patootie dog for you today.

🚨 THE NEWS

A 75-person Old Town venue draws DJs from 30 countries

Barn Radio, a Black-led electronic music venue on First Avenue in Old Town, holds just 75 people. Since 2023, it has hosted more than 300 artists from over 30 countries across more than 170 events. Weekend sets range from Tanzanian singeli to Chicago house. A GoFundMe launched in February raised $30,000 toward a $50,000 goal, and all of it went to new equipment. OPB

Portland's housing fee break hasn't changed the pace of building

A year into Portland's pause on certain new-housing fees, a city report says construction is on track to meet or slightly exceed last year's pace. About 980 units have permits, waived fees and are under construction. The report says larger projects rely on outside investment and take longer to get through permitting. If all 2,871 units that applied are permitted, the city would forgo about $51 million. Portland Parks & Recreation could lose $22 million of that. OPB

Executive chef Justin Ramirez has won a Michelin star already, and from the reviews it sounds like he could deliver the first one for Portland. Meg Cotner of Bridgetown Bites wrote a detailed review of her experience which was entirely positive. Bridgetown Bites
