🚨 THE NEWS

Your Water Bill Is Gonna Hurt.

The Bull Run filtration plant was supposed to cost $500 million. Then $2.1 billion. Now it's $2.56 billion — a $450 million jump announced in February alone — and the meter's still running. The city blamed permitting delays and inflation. Fair enough. But Portland also promised fiscal oversight on this project and mostly delivered an advisory board with no actual power to stop anything. The independent expert panel they're now touting? Formed the same month costs exploded. The nearly one million people drinking Bull Run water will see rate hikes. City says it won't know how bad until May. Sleep tight.

The Thorns Beat Seattle With Nine Players. Nine.

Friday night's Portland Thorns home opener was already chaotic when midfielder Cassandra Bogere earned two yellow cards in the 8th and 9th minutes — the fastest double-yellow sending off in NWSL history. Down a player for most of the match, the Thorns didn't panic. Pietra Tordin headed in a corner kick in the 28th minute, then set up Reilyn Turner to make it 2-0 nine minutes later. Portland then lost a second player in the 57th minute when Reyna Reyes was sent off for pulling an opponent's hair. Nine vs. eleven. Final score: Portland 2, Seattle 0. It was a record crowd of 21,321 for a Portland home opener. The Rose City doesn't do boring.

Three Teens Shot at Hillsboro Venue. No Suspects. Few Answers.

Three teenagers were shot Saturday night around 10 p.m. at NW Events & Environments on Northeast Century Boulevard in Hillsboro. All three were hospitalized and are expected to survive. Beyond that, Hillsboro police aren't saying much. They couldn't confirm what kind of event was happening or whether other young people were involved. No suspects were in custody as of Sunday, though detectives say they're actively pursuing leads. The venue, which hosts banquets and large gatherings, did not respond to press inquiries. If you were there and saw something, call non-emergency dispatch at 503-629-0111, case #26-5456.

📚 ON THIS DAY

On March 23, 1806, Lewis and Clark packed up Fort Clatsop and began their long journey home. They'd spent a cold, soggy winter on the Oregon coast — very relatable — and were done with it.
