Who here did the naked bike ride?🙋‍♂️ Biggest local story: a jury just made the city of Portland pay for telling a family their dying tree was "fine." It wasn't. Tonight we have two concerts where the band’s name starts with of and I just think that’s kinda neat.

A jury sided with a Southwest Portland family whose home was crushed by a Douglas fir the city refused to let them remove. Joel and Sarah Bond applied for a permit in 2022; an inspector spent ten minutes on it and called the tree fine. Fourteen months later it crashed through their roof during an ice storm, missing their six-year-old daughter by feet. The jury found the city 75 percent at fault and awarded $717,323.93 in damages. The Bonds' attorney is still pushing for more. KGW

Oregon State Police and the FBI are hunting three men who staged a fake traffic stop near Woodburn, claimed to be ICE agents, and assaulted the driver they pulled over. Two wore tactical vests marked "POLICE" and carried badges; one had a rifle. Federal officials confirmed none of them were real agents. The driver was pulled from their car, searched, and held in the suspects' SUV before being released 15 to 20 minutes later. Investigators want to hear from anyone contacted from the same phone number. KPTV

Initiative Petition 28, which would've criminalized hunting, fishing, and the commercial slaughter of animals statewide, failed to qualify for November after flunking signature verification twice. Backers turned in nearly 143,000 signatures; they needed just over 117,000 valid ones and came up short both times. Too many unverified signatures. Supporters framed it as expanding animal cruelty protections. Opponents, including Governor Kotek, called it an overreach that would've swept up ordinary hunting, fishing, and farming. Chief petitioner David Michelson says he'll try again. This was his third attempt. Some ideas just won't take no for an answer. KPTV
