Portland wants to ban "surveillance pricing" before it exists
No Portland grocery store is charging you a different price than your neighbor yet, but Councilor Eric Zimmerman wants a law on the books before one tries. His proposal would block stores from using scraped personal data to jack up individual prices, a practice already banned in Maryland and Connecticut. Coupons and loyalty programs would stay untouched. Zimmerman's logic: it's a lot easier to say no before the digital price tags start experimenting than to claw the practice back later. Semi spills grain, shuts down SW Naito Parkway
A semi and a car collided at SW Naito Parkway and Harbor Drive Monday afternoon, and the semi dumped its entire grain load across the road. The intersection is fully closed while crews clean up, with no word yet on when it reopens. Two people from the crash were taken to the hospital in unknown condition. It also cuts off one of the main routes into downtown from northbound I-5, so budget extra time if you're headed that way tonight. KPTV
