This weekend is huge if you love free events, festivals, sports and today kicks off a brand new festival going all October- ADX: A Regionwide Art And Design Festival Celebrating Portland’s CREATIVE Independents.

  • There is still some time to reserve your seat at the Dinner Club on Wed, Oct 7 @ 7pm. This is a great opportunity to make new friends and connections with your neighbors. 30 of you have already signed up!

  • Here’s how it works: take a quick personality quiz, then get matched for dinner with 5 other people at a surprise restaurant. You will find out the location that morning, but it will be around SE Hawthorne. Afterwards, all the groups will get an invitation to meet up together at a nearby spot for drinks. Make new friends and have fun!

Modhaus opens new indoor bar with foodcarts outside

Modhaus officially opened its sprawling indoor space on Friday, Sept. 18, at SE 38th and Division. The mid-century-inspired hall has 100 indoor seats, a full bar and a cafe. A covered outdoor area with two fire pits and heaters will add 100 more seats once finishing touches are done. That old boat or trailer sitting on your property? It’s not going anywhere on its own—and most junk services won’t touch it.

That’s where Jr Junk Services stands out. Family-owned in Portland, this is the team people call for the jobs others avoid—especially boat and trailer removal. I used Jr’s Junk Services recently, and Jose was great to work with. He showed up on time and made everything so easy for me. If you need something big gone without the stress, this is the move.

Leatherman's Inventor Has a Handy New Tool: A Book

Tim Leatherman, inventor of the Leatherman multi-tool, has a new project, and it's a book. The Leatherman Book, written with Chris Kornelis, tells how a note on a 1975 budget trip to Europe, "add pliers to pocketknife," grew into a company that has made more than 90 million multi-tools in its Portland factory. Leatherman will talk about the book Tuesday, Oct. 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Powell's City of Books. Head to KGW to see a video tour of the Leatherman factory. KGW

Portland's Arts Tax Takes a Turn in the Courtroom

Portland Metro Chamber CEO Andrew Hoan and Loretta Guzman filed a complaint Thursday in Oregon Tax Court over the city's arts tax. They argue the City Charter and Oregon Constitution required voter approval for the council's changes. Councilors voted 7-5 on May 27 to raise the tax from $35 to $50 for most single filers, with joint filers paying $100. If the Chamber prevails, the tax returns to $35. The arts tax has generated more than $150 million since 2012. Portland Tribune
