Kaiser Doctor Swapped Rubbing Alcohol for a Painkiller, Suit Says
A Kaiser Permanente patient is suing for $13 million, claiming a doctor injected rubbing alcohol into her toes instead of the anesthetic she needed. The suit says the doctor was in a rush and grabbed the wrong vial, leaving her with severe and permanent injuries. Kaiser malpractice claims almost always get funneled into private arbitration instead of a jury trial, so odds are this one never sees a courtroom either. Details on exactly how it happened are thin so far, but it is the kind of story that makes you want to read the label before anyone sticks you with anything. More should surface as the case moves forward. Oregonian
That article doesn’t mention the doctor’s name or current employer. Maybe you can find them in the comments on Reddit HERE.
Portland's Police Funding Fight Just Got Real
Backers of a ballot measure that would reroute a quarter of the Portland Clean Energy Fund to hire 400 more police officers say they collected north of 62,000 signatures, well past the 40,437 needed for November's ballot. The Portland Police Association has bankrolled most of the campaign, arguing thin staffing means Portlanders wait too long for help. Opponents call it a bait and switch on the climate tax voters approved back in 2018. City Elections still has to verify the signatures, with an August 5 deadline looming. If it qualifies, and it looks like it will, expect one of the most expensive and bitter fights on this fall's ballot. Willamette Week
PDX's Grand Entrance Is Gone, and Some Travelers Still Haven't Noticed
Three months after Portland International Airport permanently closed its old central arrivals exit, some travelers are still walking up to locked glass doors expecting the wooden stadium seating and the old walk out into the terminal. The Port of Portland says the new north and south exits mean shorter walks to baggage claim, and that most flyers have adjusted fine. Not everyone agrees. One frequent flyer called the old route significantly better and said the new one feels confusing every time. A dad waiting for his kids asked a reporter if he could start a petition. He was joking. Mostly. Willamette Week
