OK Chicken Is More Than OK, Says The New York Times
Portland got a compliment. The New York Times named Portland's OK Chicken & Khao Soi and Carlton's Hayward to its 2026 list of the 50 best restaurants in the country. OK Chicken & Khao Soi, from chefs Earl Ninsom, Sam Smith and Eric Nelson, opened in January in the old Pok Pok space on SE Division and quickly became one of the city's buzziest openings. Hayward, led by chef Kari Shaughnessy, is a Carlton favorite for its seasonal menu. KGW

Phil and Penny's $1.1B Gift Levels Up Portland Health Care
Portland just got some serious healthcare news. Phil and Penny Knight are giving Providence St. Vincent Medical Center and the Providence Heart Institute $1.1 billion, one of the largest healthcare gifts in U.S. history. The money will fund Oregon's first hospital dedicated to women's health, plus expanded cardiac care and patient support programs. Providence announced the gift Tuesday, with officials outlining project timelines at a formal event later that morning. KPTV
Portland Renters Speak on Housing
Portland City Council's Housing and Permitting Committee held its first Renters' Feedback Forum Tuesday, inviting renters to share what it's like to find and keep housing. New data from the Portland Housing Bureau shows about half of renters are cost-burdened, spending more than 30% of income on housing, and a quarter spend more than half. Committee chair Candace Avalos pointed to the council's Keep Portland Housed package, which set aside $56 million for rent assistance, eviction defense and tenant education. KATU
