Portland's Plazas Get a Colorful Glow-Up
Five Portland plazas are getting an artistic makeover through the city's new Art in Plazas pilot, a joint project between the Portland Bureau of Transportation and the Office of Arts & Culture. Five artists, chosen from 42 submissions, each received a $10,000 commission. Larry Yes installed painted benches at Ankeny Alley, Lettie Jane Rennekamp added acrylic silhouette figures to Montgomery Plaza, and Arcadia Trueheart filled Rainbow Road with community-made portraits. The city will decide the project's future after evaluating this pilot round.

Popdarts Aims to Stick as Portland's Next Bar Game
The Rose City Popdarts Club has been building a following for Popdarts, a suction-cup dart game invented in 2020 that's aired on ESPN8 The Ocho. Weekly free play happens Tuesdays at 7pm at Midway Sports & Billiards in Oregon City, where turnout has grown from about eight players six months ago to 25-plus at a recent tournament. Multnomah County Library Turns the Page on Print
Digital checkouts now outnumber physical ones by more than 2 to 1 at Multnomah County Library, up from under a fifth a decade ago. Licensing an e-book typically costs the library at least $55 for two years, versus $13 for a personal copy, straining its $8 million materials budget. To manage costs, the library cut its e-book hold limit from 20 to 10 per reader. Physical visits remain steady, helped by newly renovated branches, including a $163 million Gresham location.
