Tuesday it’s a bright and perfect day with a high of 75. First I want to say congratulations to Conor Ford, winner of the Portland Marathon. Thrifters and vintage hunters have a giant new store downtown. Some violence erupted at a brunch. A new book shows what’s in Portlanders' junk drawers. Mine is mostly cords and batteries. Keep reading if you love oysters.

Retropolitan Brings a Vintage Mall Downtown

Tyler Gregory and his wife, Sara Galasso, opened Retropolitan Vintage Mall in August, and downtown shoppers have taken notice. The store, in the former Paul Mitchell beauty school across from the Benson Hotel, houses about 70 vendors selling antiques, clothing and collectibles. Gregory says sales are a year ahead of what the couple planned, and a waiting list exists for new vendors. Galasso sees it as proof that downtown still draws a crowd. Find it at 234 SW Broadway. KGW

Clarklewis Damaged After Protest at Private Brunch

Clarklewis in the Central Eastside was damaged Sunday after protesters showed up at a private brunch, believing some guests had ties to white nationalists. A window was broken, and some staff hid upstairs or went home, shaken. The restaurant closed for the night and canceled a wedding. Co-owner Joe Rogers said the group paid about $2,000 for the brunch, and he plans to donate that money back to the community. Oregonian

A Book That Really Opens Up

Michael Apruzzese spent a year photographing more than 200 Portland junk drawers, and the result is a 192-page photo book called Junk. Batteries and tape tied for the most common finds. He also learned that even the fanciest homes have a junk drawer, and what's inside isn't always fancier. Junk is $49 online at blahblahblah.love and at 10 local stores. Willamette Week

The Shuck Truck by Tidal Boar Foods has been open for a couple years, but just recently has moved to a new location at Modhaus, on SE Division and 38th. This is the only ( I believe?) oyster shucking truck in Portland. They have $2 happy hour oysters, with optional toppings including smoked trout roe. You can also get poke bowls and fresh fish and chips. That Google link up top doesn’t show the hours of the new location, but you can see them here.

Tu-anh N gave them on ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Google:

“Stumbled upon this place in the neighborhood looking for a place to eat with our pup.

The poke bowl was delicious!! Loved the fact that use sustainable and local ingredients. The fish and chips were phenomenal. Crispy flaky battered fish so delicious . Hefty portions too! I love raw oysters and can’t wait to try them at my next visit!”

📚 ON THIS DAY

On this day in 2011, Occupy Portland began, with an estimated 10,000 people marching through downtown and filling Pioneer Courthouse Square and nearby streets.
