Sellwood's Skunk Population Boom Has Neighbors Stumped
Residents in Southeast Portland's Sellwood-Moreland neighborhood say skunks are taking over their yards, and pets are paying the price. One neighbor says he's captured dozens on camera and doesn't have a usable backyard anymore. Another, a 40-year Sellwood resident, says he's never seen this many, sometimes a mother and four kits at once. Neighbors don't want to harm the animals, they just want them gone. Nobody's found a fix yet. Skunk removal companies haven't called back either. KATU

Portland's Murder Mystery Returns: The Crows Are Back
Fall's real opening day in Portland isn't a football game, it's the crows coming home. About 1,500 have already settled near Pioneer Courthouse Square, with more than 20,000 expected downtown by winter. A local naturalist has walked over a thousand miles tracking them, and he still doesn't fully know why they pick Portland. Starting in October, trained falcons will patrol downtown to nudge the roost away from busy sidewalks. Portlanders are split: love them or duck for cover. KATU
Portland's Stormwater Bill Math Might Not Add Up
lPortland is charging thousands of homeowners more for stormwater using county tax assessor data, even though the county itself warned that data wasn't built for this. The city says it's the best public dataset available and mostly favors homeowners when it's wrong. But one resident said the numbers overestimated her billable area by nearly 1,000 square feet. About 25,000 customers are seeing a 30 percent stormwater increase. Only seven have filed an appeal so far. You can check your own numbers on PortlandMaps. KATU
