Portland readers had plenty to say about City Councilor Mitch Green's brush fire. Green violated city and county burn bans in July when a backyard brush pile at his westside home grew large enough to summon four Portland firefighters. After Willamette Week obtained the incident report, Green admitted he didn't know about the ban and called it a dumb move. He thanked the crew from Engine 18 for responding. Green is up for reelection in November, and readers used the paper's letters section this week to weigh in. Willamette Week

Portland's medical community is warming up to magic mushrooms. A new study, the biggest look yet at Oregon's legal psilocybin program, found most of the 346 participants described their guided trip as beneficial, and more than half called it one of the most meaningful experiences of their lives. Serious problems were rare. The findings, published this week in JAMA Network Open, cover people who used state licensed centers between 2024 and 2026. OHSU researcher Todd Korthuis said the results give policymakers real data instead of guesswork. More than 20,000 Oregonians have used the program. Willamette Week

Portland's women's sports teams have a stunning new home. The Portland Thorns and the Portland Fire officially opened the Kaiser Permanente Performance Center in Hillsboro this weekend, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday. The 100,000-square-foot facility is the first in the country built for two professional women's teams at once, with two full soccer pitches, two basketball courts, and a nursery for players with young kids. RAJ Sports co-owner Lisa Bhathal Merage said every detail was designed around player wellbeing. OPB
