Portland Rises to the Occasion With Nine Rooftop Patios
Portland doesn't have many rooftop bars, but the Mercury just rounded up nine worth the elevator ride. Departure, atop The Nines hotel, offers a '60s airline theme and pan-Asian happy hour bites. Tope, inside the Hoxton Hotel, serves tacos and mezcal cocktails with skyline views toward the White Stag sign. Southeast standouts include Revolution Hall's seasonal roof deck and Noble Rot's six-table patio, built atop a geothermal well. Most decks close for the season by October. Portland Mercury

Portland Renames Cesar Chavez Boulevard
Portland City Council voted unanimously Wednesday to rename Southeast César E. Chávez Boulevard to Campesinos Boulevard, a Spanish word for farmworkers. The change follows a New York Times investigation alleging the late labor leader sexually abused women and girls for decades. Councilor Loretta Smith, who introduced the ordinance with Tiffany Koyama Lane, said the city "unknowingly honored a very flawed man" when it renamed 39th Avenue after Chavez in 2009. The Portland Bureau of Transportation now has up to five years to replace the street signs. KGW
Portland Gets Conned by 60,000 of Its Closest Nerds
Portland's premier pop culture convention returns to the Oregon Convention Center Friday through Sunday, and organizers expect more than 60,000 fans of every fandom to show up. Rose City Comic Con debuted in 2012 and has grown into one of the largest fan conventions on the West Coast, with actors from The Boys, Daredevil, and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds headlining panels. New this year is Dave's Hideaway, a grown-up space with live tattooing and entertainment. Portland Tribune
