🚨 THE NEWS

Portland's Summer Burn Ban Starts Today
Starting this morning, Portland Fire & Rescue's summer burn ban is in effect, and it's going to stick around until fall. The ban covers recreational campfires, fire pits, yard debris, agricultural burning, and any open burning permits. Washington County and Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue districts are also under similar restrictions. The timing makes sense: today's high is expected to hit 95°F, the region's first heat wave of the year. Grills and smokers are still allowed, but you're supposed to keep the grill 10 feet from anything combustible. Oregon Department of Forestry also officially began fire season today, with new prohibitions on smoking, blasting, and tracer ammo on ODF protected lands across Multnomah, Clackamas, Yamhill, and other counties. Portland Center Stage Pulls Off a $9 Million Comeback
More than a year after Portland's largest theater company announced it might have to close for good, Portland Center Stage is nearly there. As of last week, PCS had raised about $7.8 million of its $9 million "Save PCS" goal, with roughly $1.2 million still needed by June 30. The campaign drew nearly 7,000 individual donors, plus significant backing from the state. "When your state steps in and supports you in that way, it sends a clear message to everyone else," said Director of Advancement Edwina Kane. The theater still needs to clear the final stretch this month, and has invited donors of $1,000 or more to name a seat at The Armory. KPTV
Man Shot and Killed at Rocky Butte Park
A man was found dead early Saturday morning after a shooting in Rocky Butte Park, according to the Portland Police Bureau. Officers responded around 3:30 a.m. to 3250 NE Rocky Butte Road and found a male victim with gunshot wounds. Paramedics were unable to save him. Officers detained another man near the scene and are working to determine whether he was involved. Homicide detectives spent the morning at the park while Northeast Rocky Butte Road was closed at both park entrances. Detectives believe other witnesses may have left before police arrived and are asking anyone with information to come forward. This is an ongoing investigation. KATU
☕ NEW COFFEE SHOP SPOTLIGHT

Mayger Coffee Co: My wife loves coffee shops so we go to a new one every weekend. This one on NE Broadway was interesting because they offer this flavor called Salmiakki- it’s salty licorice flavor. We were skeptical but we both really enjoyed it. It’s a mild flavor- but I love licorice so I’d be happy even if it were stronger. Oh and they’re coffee is roasted by Proud Mary- that place is unreal. Mayger doesn’t have a website but here they are on Google and we made a video about it here
📚 ON THIS DAY
On June 15, 1846, Great Britain formally gave up its claim to the Oregon Territory. The treaty set the northern boundary at the 49th parallel — the line we still share with Canada today.
