Sushi Fukami Finally Rolls Into Downtown
Chef Cody Auger's Sushi Fukami opened as a full restaurant in downtown Portland on Friday, Sept. 18, after years as a pop-up. Auger co-founded Nimblefish and helped popularize Edomae-style sushi in Portland. The limited-seating omakase counter was already booked up. Its full kitchen and charcoal grill will let Auger serve grilled dishes, along with uni, monkfish liver and Hokkaido kinki. A small menu of Japanese whiskies and sakes rounds out the offerings. Arts Tax Changes Strike a New Chord
Fewer Portlanders will need to file or pay the Arts Education Tax starting with tax year 2026, but those who do will pay more. Filing is now based on Oregon taxable income: $20,000 or less for single filers, or $40,000 or less for joint filers, generally means no filing. Those who owe pay $50, or $100 for married couples filing jointly, by April 15, 2027. The city is taking public comment on the administrative rules through Oct. 16. portland.gov
A Mt. Hood Miracle for a Portland Filmmaker
Local filmmaker Aaron Bratcher is recovering after surviving a 120-foot fall off Tom, Dick and Harry Mountain in the Mt. Hood National Forest on Tuesday. His friend Cammy Bethell says they were filming the last scenes of his upcoming movie, Slash Squatch. A hiking doctor helped, and Bethell used her military background to make a tourniquet. Clackamas Fire crews rescued Bratcher, who broke both knees, his wrists and some ribs and is making progress after several surgeries. KPTV
