Thursday sunny with a high of 76. Looks like rain tomorrow. I went to an event from this newsletter the other night, the NoPo Disc Golf tournament, and I had the best time. I’ve never even tried disc golfing before, but it didn’t matter. The gang there was welcoming and supportive. This town is rich with neat things to discover and good people to share them with. Okay the big news today is that the I-5 is open again. A women’s outdoor club is exploding in popularity. Tonight we kick off FashionNXT, Portland’s fashion week.
🚨 THE NEWS
I-5 is open again, a week ahead of schedule
Southbound Interstate 5 through the Rose Quarter is reopening about a week early. The Oregon Department of Transportation said crews would begin reopening lanes around 10 p.m. Wednesday (last night, but after writing this). The closure started Sept. 11 and was expected to last five weeks, with crews working around the clock to replace old concrete and make the two-mile stretch more earthquake-ready. Officials had expected commute times to triple if drivers kept the same routes, but traffic settled as people changed their habits. OPB

That old boat or trailer sitting on your property? It’s not going anywhere on its own—and most junk services won’t touch it.
That’s where Jr Junk Services stands out. Family-owned in Portland, this is the team people call for the jobs others avoid—especially boat and trailer removal. I used Jr’s Junk Services recently, and Jose was great to work with. He showed up on time and made everything so easy for me. If you need something big gone without the stress, this is the move.

FashioNXT struts into downtown Portland
FashioNXT Week, billed as Portland's official fashion week, runs Oct. 8 to 10 at One Financial Center, 121 SW Morrison Street. Organizers say next season's collections will hit the runway, with designers from Portland and around the country, including a Seattle couturier and an up-and-coming Denver designer. Willamette Week lists exhibits and cocktails at 6 p.m., the runway show at 8 p.m. and an after-party at 10 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. Tickets are at fashionxt.com.
Women's Outdoor Club is really branching out
Lillian Hardy of Old Town shop Landdd invited women to a river spot in Oxbow Park near Troutdale in June. More than 30 showed up, and the WhatsApp group she made for logistics hit 300 members in under 24 hours. The Women's Outdoor Club now has more than 850 members and 13 subgroups, including gear swaps and rideshares. Members have painted watercolors by a waterfall, cleaned up Short Sands Beach and held a picnic in Laurelhurst Park. Willamette Week

BONUS CONTENT: Grit's N’ Gravy has reopened. Elephant’s Deli is coming back to NW with a new location and a new owner. Doug Fir is coming back, but in the old Montage building under the bridge. Should these have been main stories instead of tucked away down here? IDK. Don’t overthink it, Michael.

Send in some seasonal photos of Halloween stuff or autumn leaves and I’ll share them here. They don’t need to be professional.
