Friday hooray! Looks like a lot of rain coming this weekend. I’m going to check out a disc golf tournament at Milo McIver Park in Estacada. I’ll just have to stand there getting soaked since I’m too proud to bring an umbrella. My mother in Philly will never understand that. For your news stories today: we are still trying to keep tear gas out of Portland, the new Double Down Lounge brings Morchella back, and the old Children’s Museum building will get a new life… as like some offices or something. boo.

Portland City Council Weighs Banning Police Use of Chemical Munitions
Portland City Council took more public testimony Thursday on a possible ban on the Portland Police Bureau using CS gas and other chemical munitions. Several speakers described physical effects from tear gas and concerns about the right to peaceful assembly. Police officials testified last week that eliminating the tools could leave officers without an option in dangerous emergencies, and said the bureau has not used tear gas in crowd management since the 2020 demonstrations. Morchella Returns, Opening Saturday in the Old 3 Doors Down Space
Double Down Lounge opens Saturday, November 7, at 1429 SE 37th Avenue, just north of Hawthorne, in the space that housed 3 Doors Down for decades. Morchella, the forager-focused kitchen led by founder Cameron Dunlap and Chef David Stevenson, returns as the food partner, serving small plates rooted in Oregon’s fields and forests. The bar plans rotating local art, a DJ and a big screen. Bridgetown Bites
Oregon Zoo to Take Over the Former Children’s Museum Building
The Oregon Zoo will take ownership of the former Portland Children’s Museum building in Washington Park, zoo director Heidi Rahn announced Thursday. The museum closed in 2021, citing steep attendance and revenue losses, and nothing in the Portland area has replaced it. The zoo has not said what it will do with the building, though administrative offices are a possibility. Metro, which runs the zoo, agreed in 2024 to buy the site from the city for $3 million.
